About the Client
The Client is an ISV specializing in the domain of business process management & automation. They are a London based company, with a history of providing products and services in the process management space.
The Business Need
The Client had an existing product for managing issues, change control, and possibly any business process. A product was needed that could manage documents for any of these business processes independently; or through an integration with their existing product. The document control solution was turning out to be an important missing piece in their product suite. The envisaged document control system:
Was a web-based solution built on Microsoft .NET technologies
Where all the information could be centralized and seamlessly integrated with 3rd party applications
Needed to manage different types of documents used in various business processes that were controlled by the product-suite
The Solution
BrickRed developed the product starting from basic requirements and working with the Client to nail-down the feature-set. Waterfall coupled with incremental RAD was used; and extensive requirement analysis was followed by technology evaluation of various frameworks to design a solution that should meet all the functional and non-functional requirements.
A SharePoint based system was finalized as the backbone of the system architecture. The business logic layer was developed using object model of SharePoint. The Presentation Layer (PL) of the application used latest technologies like AJAX. The solution was developed abstracting SharePoint functionality at the back end with custom ASP.NET pages.
Thorough usability engineering was undertaken for the UI; the focus was to make it intuitive, smart and visually appealing. A wireframe prototype was carried out as a POC to assist the stakeholders in visualizing the product. Stakeholders included the Client and their beta customers as well, and intermediate demos were conducted for them so as to continuously get feedback that could be incorporated into the product.
BrickRed's QA lab provided the quality assurance services, where the product went through extensive functional, unit security, integration and performance testing. The engagement was monitored and controlled through web-based dashboard providing complete control and transparency to the Client.
